Basic Blogging Steps For Beginners
Writing your first blog post can be a daunting experience for many, especially when your brand new to the online world.
It is my aim during this blog post to give you an outline of the exact steps to take when it comes to getting started blogging.
I am going to assume that you’ve chosen the right blogging platform for you that allows you to cash in on your chosen passion.
Now that you’ve got your blogging platform and it is set up to your own specifications, let’s dive into exactly what you need to do next:
1. CHOOSING YOUR NICHE
During the customization of setting up your blog you would have had a particular niche in mind.
If you didn’t, now is the time to think about that.
Your blog must be niche specific.
What does that mean? It means that you need to think about exactly who it is that you want to be reading your blog.
Identify your target audience, who exactly that you are going to be serving your valuable content to.
Our aim is to solve our target market’s problems with our content.
If your blog is full of different topics unrelated to each other, not only will your audience be confused, you will be confusing the powerhouse of search engines: Google.
You want to gain a following of loyal readers.
So, get specific before you even write your first piece of content.
2. RESEARCH EXAMPLES
Now that your blog is niche specific, it’s time to research examples of similar blogs.
You can do this through any of the search engines: Google, Bing or Yahoo for example.
Type in a search for your specific topic and take a look at what comes up on the first page.
This is where you’ll be aiming to have your content appear so that your audience can find your content.
I am suggesting that you do this, so that you can discover blogs you like and blogs you don’t like.
The one’s that you like, identify why it is that you like them and model them with your own blog.
3.Β IT’S TIME
Ok, so now we have:
Chosen our blogging platform
Customized it by choosing our specific niche
Researched similar niche blogs
Discovered blogs we like and would like to model
Awesome! It’s time now to get started with your first blog post!
It’s crucially important to understand the outlay.
4. HEADLINE
Your headline needs to capture the attention of your reader before they even read you content.
If you fail to do this you’ve more than likely lost that reader forever.
Keep your reader in mind, what is their problem?
Outline what your content is about in your headline.
HEADLINE TIPS:
1. Numbers and negative words increase click through rates
2. Keep it under 65 characters for search headlines
3. Headline must match your content
4. Odd numbers perform better than even ones.
5. Aim for 6 word headlines.
6. Avoid words with multiple meanings.
7. Include power words and interesting adjectives.
5. INTRODUCTION
It is a good idea to start your blog post off with a question.
The introduction should be no less than two paragraphs and no more then 6 paragraphs.
This is where you’re going to HOOK your readers.
Set the frame work for your post, the big promise of what your content is going to do for them.
Remember, people’s attentions spans are not very long, especially when it comes to the internet with all of the noisy distractions readily at hand.
Hook your readers by letting them know that they’ve come to the right place to have their problem solved.
How do you do this? By setting the expectation of what’s to come in your post.
It is essentially the beginning of your content.
6. BODY
This is the main area where your content is delivered.
The core of where you will solve your readers problem.
This can be achieved through video, images, infographs, audios and text.
You want your content to be easy on the eyes so that people are attracted to reading it.
That’s why it’s a good idea to spice up your post with different media types.
Another reason for this is that people learn in different ways.
Some learn linguistically (text), some Auditory (listening) and some visually (watching).
Catering to these different groups as often as you can will serve your readers best.
I suggest your blog post to be at least 500 words, for maximum impact 200 words.
7. CONCLUSION
This is the end of your post where you give a summary of what the reader has learned.
Keep it simple and straight to the core of the value you shared.
8. CALL TO ACTION
Now that you’ve given a ton of value to your reader and solved their problem, you have built a rapport.
It’s time to tell your reader exactly what you want them to do next.
Never assume that they know because more than likely they don’t.
A call to action can be anything from:
